Trans Advocacy

In 2022, Rachel concluded her fifth year of service as the Board President of the National Center for Transgender Equality (opens in new tab), with six years of total service on NCTE’s Board. Under her leadership, NCTE’s diverse Board took an active role in enabling NCTE to change policies and society to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people.

Rachel speaks frequently on LGBT issues, and has conducted transgender inclusion and competency training at numerous federal agencies and other organizations. She has provided pro bono legal advice to many trans and nonbinary people regarding identity documents and other legal issues, and in 2014, she was named one of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association.
